About Villarenger

The village of Villarenger has hardly changed for a hundred years and offers a genuine, authentic Savoyard experience; from the narrow winding streets with the sundials on the walls, to the old Pont Romain stone arched bridge over the river, which is visible from our huge vaulted window in Chalet Chardon. Monsieur Martin keeps a herd of 150 milking goats which he still herds to the high mountain pastures in the summer. You can buy fresh home made cheese from him and he also rents out horses even in the winter for trekking through the snow.

A few minutes up the road from Villarenger, in picture postcard St. Martin de Belleville, are the ski lifts, which give you access to the whole 600Kms. of piste in the 3 Valleys.

St. Martin has a busy Savoyard butchers shop specialising in Alpine delicacies such as Tartiflette and assiettes of Dauphinoise potatoes, not to mention their range of home made sausages and hot roast chickens. Further along is a small supermarket and a Boulangerie where croissants and baguettes are freshly baked every morning, as are their mouth watering cakes and pastries. There are 6 restaurants to choose from, each offering different styled menus to give something for everyone, and 3 or 4 bars.

Ski hire and ESF ski school are also readily available in St. Martin and there is a trainer tow for beginners which is free (and a free magic carpet for the smallest beginners!)

From Chalet Chardon you can drive to St. Martin in little more than 5 minutes to the large free car park 100m from the gondola. 15 minutes takes you to Les Menuires and 20mins to Val Thorens the highest ski resort in France (for powder days !) where the fist car park, which is also free, opens directly onto the piste.

From St. Martin direct by ski, St Martin 1 & 2 lifts take you over into Meribel and Mottaret, or 3 lifts will take you into Les Menuires or over into Courchevel. A fourth lift and you are looking down into Val Thorens; all in less than an hour!
